Avatar – Simply Awesome
Avatar – The long awaited sci-fi flick from the legendary film director James Cameron is out and is making a lot of noise in the Box office. The film will be screened locally in Jan ’10, but thanks to Torrents I was able to see a viewable print yesterday. When Michael Arrington writes “Avatar Is Like The iPhone Of Movies”, he is absolutely right. The movie is indeed a game changer both in the world of movies and CGI. The details of the planet Pandora are so real and detailed, very well conceived and executed. I wish I could have seen the movie in its true glory in a Imax theatre, but I guess when its screened we have to suffice with a 2D version. Enough has been written about this glorious movie and the websphere is full of it. Rather, I have picked up few points from the movie, which I would like to share:
Computers and Usability:
Avatar takes the computers and usability to next level what we first saw in Tom Cruise’s Minority Report. There were other movies, which came out recently with the same concept. There is even a system available today by Oblang. I’m sure this area will pick up in the years to come. It would be interested to see what Steve Jobs & Co. will do in this area. Microsoft already has a Surface solution.

The above is the best conceived Invading Armies dashboard till date; giving indepth details tactical and geo spatial of enemy forces.

Spaceship:
I think there is some consensus going on between Hollywood and NASA about the design of the next generation space ships. A lot of movies recently had the same design. They even have details on the specs on Pandorapedia.
Sarcasm:
James Cameron also realized that even in the age of Pandora, RDA is just hired guns for the occupying forces. He beautifully describes how Companies can launch wars at people whose only fault is that they are living on some fosel fuel deposit. Then, it was the WMDs used as scapegoats to enter Iraq, now it is Al Qaeda in Afghanistan. Who knows tomorrow it will be the nukes in Pakistan? The Na’vi had the nature on their side and creatures like the Hammerhead Titanothere (aka Rhino with a Hammerhead shark face) but who is going to save us?
This is one flick I’m going to get on Blu Ray when it comes out. Cameron & Co. also have a game out. Worth checking!
